I'm glad you found the information helpful. To answer your question you have to be an informed consumer and even a little of an investigator. The commercials and food labels are necessarily lying to you. If they say there is omega 3 in the product then there is. If they are lying they can get a BIG fine from Health Canada (if you don't trust a product then you can report them anonymously to CFIA).
The best place to get truthful information is to look at the nutrition facts panel and list of ingredients. This is what I do. I did just yesterday when I was looking at the fibre snacks that have appeared on shelves. If a product is going to be an excellent source of fibre then I expect it to have 6g of fibre per serving or at least 4g! Some of the products had only 2g - well I can get that by eating half a pear and I'd save about 100 calories. I realize that I may be a bit more informed than the average consumer but companies have to tell you the nutrition and ingredients - if there's something fishy it can be found in either of those places.

Hi Dr. Madeleine, I'm not one to eat granola bars but this information is sure helpful, as a consumer its frustrating that we hear all kinds of different nutrient information, I don't know who to believe anymore so when i see that some products have certain vitamins in it or half the fat or carries certain things to help us live longer. i don't buy because i don't trust the commercials. how do we get the truthful information?

[...] Come onnnnn people can you really eat this??? How can anyone blame Ronald McDonald when other fast food restaurants launch products like this. Not 1 but 2 fried pieces of chicken stuffed with monterey jack cheese, bacon and a so called special sauce (I’m guessing it’s mayo based). If you find this appealing then get ready for a heartache. If you don’t get one today it will come soon. At 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1380mg of sodium…it’s gonna leave a mark! Looks like Canada is resisting isn’t launching it and instead saying that it “won’t appeal to the Canadian market”. I put this up there with the crispy creme burger. [...]

Yes it did grab my attention and I agree that we need to promote fruits and veggie consumption to kids but is the commercial for kids or adults?

I love broccoli too and I agree that the broccoli commercials are a bit silly but they did grab your attention.

Anyway to promote more vegetables and fruit to kids can't be all bad but the question is, will anyone take those commercials seriously?
